Guided Yoga: Extended Side Angle and Fish Poses

Reading Time: 3 minutes Extended Side Angle Pose — Utthita Parsvakonasana — is a standing yoga pose that utilizes all of the muscles in the body.  There are several variations of the pose to accommodate various levels of flexibility. It’s usually simply referred to as “Parsvakonasana,” or “Side Angle Pose.”

The fish pose, if carried out in the water, allows the body to float quite easily like that of a fish; hence the name.

Four limbed Staff Pose

Guided Yoga: Four limbed Staff and Full Boat Poses

Reading Time: < 1 minute The Four Limbed Staff pose is frequently practiced as part of the Surya Namaskar or Sun Salutation pose. 

Full Boat Pose is a balance-oriented yoga pose that strengthens the core and hip flexors. This pose also helps stretch the hamstrings and spine, as well as stimulate the thyroid and kidneys.

Upward Abdominal Lock -Yoga Pose

Guided Yoga: Upward Abdominal Lock and Half lord of fishes Poses

Reading Time: 2 minutes Uddiyana Bandha is practiced by pulling the abdomen inwards after exhalation and holding the breath outside. The abdominal muscles press the organs in the abdomen against the wall behind the organ, next to the spinal column.

Half Lord of the Fishes pose energizes the spine and stimulates the digestive fire.

Salutation Seal

Guided Yoga: Revolved Extended Side Angle and Salutation Seal Poses

Reading Time: 2 minutes Revolved Side Angle stretches, tones, and strengthens the entire body, inside and out. It stretches the thighs, knees, ankles, calves, groins, chest, and shoulders. This pose builds strength in the legs, as well, particularly in the quadriceps and ankles.

This Salutation Seal pose, also known as Anjali Mudra, is an excellent way to encourage a meditative state of awareness. Start your practice by sitting for 5 minutes. This hand position can also be used as you are standing prior to beginning the Sun Salutation sequence.

Guided Yoga: Staff Pose and Sphinx Pose

Reading Time: < 1 minute Dandasana is the basic plank posture. The name comes from the Sanskrit word danda which means “stick” or “staff” and asana which means “posture” or “seat.”

Sphinx Pose is a gentle back bending posture that can be practiced either actively or passively.

Standing up and reaching the arms overhead awakens the body from toes to fingertips, providing a boost of energy. It’s a simple way to feel rejuvenated!

The Tree Pose replicates the graceful, steady stance of a tree. Unlike most yoga poses, the Tree Pose requires keeping our eyes open in order to maintain body balance.
